60 cm Chain: How Long Is It and Where Does It Fall?

Updated October 2026 · By Yaniv Segal, founder of Segal Jewelry, Los Angeles

A 60 cm chain is 23.6 inches long. Worn as a necklace, it falls well below the collarbone: on many women it reaches around the top of the bust, and on many men it sits mid-chest. Exact placement depends on your neck size, build and the weight of any pendant. Here is how 60 cm compares with every common length.

How long is a 60 cm chain in inches?

To convert centimeters to inches, divide by 2.54. So 60 cm ÷ 2.54 = 23.6 inches.

That makes a 60 cm chain about the same as a 24 inch chain. Going the other way, multiply inches by 2.54: an 18 inch chain is 45.7 cm.

Necklace length chart: 40 to 70 cm

Use this chart to see where each length typically falls on an adult. Treat it as a guide, since every neck and frame is different.

Length (cm) Length (inches) Where it typically falls
40 cm 15.7 in Close to the base of the neck, around the collarbone
45 cm 17.7 in Just below the collarbone; the classic pendant length
50 cm 19.7 in On the upper chest, a little lower than 45 cm
55 cm 21.7 in Mid upper chest, above the bust line
60 cm 23.6 in Around the top of the bust on women, mid-chest on men
70 cm 27.6 in Below the bust; a long, layering length

Each step of 5 cm is roughly 2 inches. That small change moves a pendant noticeably lower on the body.

Where does a 60 cm necklace fall?

A 60 cm necklace sits low enough to rest over most necklines. It reads as a deliberate long chain rather than a close, everyday pendant.

It works well over crew necks, sweaters and high-cut tops, where a shorter chain would disappear under the fabric.

A pendant adds its own height below the chain. A tall pendant on a 60 cm chain will hang lower than the chain alone suggests.

Is 60 cm a good length for men?

Yes, for many men 60 cm is a comfortable, common choice. On a broader neck and chest it falls mid-chest, which suits a pendant worn over or under a shirt.

Men with a larger neck often find 50 cm sits closer than expected. If a shorter chain feels tight, 55 or 60 cm is the usual next step.

Wearer Close fit Everyday Long
Most women 40 cm (15.7 in) 45 cm (17.7 in) 60 cm (23.6 in) and up
Most men 50 cm (19.7 in) 55 cm (21.7 in) 60 cm (23.6 in) and up

These are typical starting points, not rules. Your own measurement is always the better guide.

How to measure the right necklace length at home

  1. Take a piece of string or a soft tape measure.
  2. Wrap it around your neck and let it drop to where you want the necklace to sit.
  3. Mark the point where the two ends meet.
  4. Lay it flat and measure in centimeters or inches.
  5. If you plan to add a pendant, allow for its height below the chain.

You can also hold an existing necklace up to the chart above. If you love how it sits, measure it end to end and use that as your benchmark.

How to layer a 60 cm chain

Layering works best when each chain sits at a clearly different height. A 60 cm chain makes a natural bottom layer.

  • Two layers: pair a 45 cm pendant with a 60 cm chain for a clear gap.
  • Three layers: try 40, 50 and 60 cm for even spacing.
  • Mix weights: keep the finest chain on top and the boldest piece lowest.
  • Mix metals with care: repeat each metal at least twice so the stack looks intentional.
