Custom Wedding Band to Match Your Engagement Ring

Updated October 2026 · By Yaniv Segal, founder of Segal Jewelry, Los Angeles

To get a custom wedding band that matches your engagement ring, send clear photos of your ring from the top and the side, plus your ring size. We design a band in 3D that follows its shape, curving or notching around the center stone so both rings sit flush, then handcraft it in Los Angeles. If you are still choosing the engagement ring, plan both together.

Why doesn't a straight band fit my engagement ring?

Many engagement rings have a center stone or halo that sits low, close to the finger. A straight band pushes against it and leaves a gap between the two rings.

Unusual shapes make this worse. Marquise and pear points, wide halos, cathedral shoulders and floral settings all need a band shaped around them.

The fix is a contour band: a band designed to follow the exact outline of your ring. That is where custom work pays off.

Which wedding band style works with your ring?

Here are the main options and when each makes sense.

Band type How it sits Choose it when
Straight band Flat line next to the ring Your center stone sits high enough to clear it
Curved or contour band Follows the shape of the center or halo Your ring sits low or has an unusual shape
Notched band A small cutout lets the center settle in You want a mostly straight band with a flush fit
Eternity band Stones all the way around Your ring has clearance and you want maximum sparkle
Bridal set pair Designed together as one set You are choosing both rings at the same time

Our bridal sets guide goes deeper on matching sets versus separate rings.

How do you get a custom band made to match?

You work directly with me, Yaniv Segal, and our design team. The process mirrors our custom ring process.

  1. Send photos of your engagement ring: top view, side view and on the hand, plus your ring size and date if known.
  2. We build the band in 3D around your ring's shape and send a design preview to approve, with changes until it's right.
  3. Choose metal and stones: 14K or 18K yellow, white or rose gold, or platinum, with diamonds, moissanite or colored gems.
  4. Optional: order a $199 Try It In Real Life replica to check the pairing.
  5. We handcraft the band to order in our Los Angeles workshop.

Tell us your date when you send the photo, and we'll confirm the timeline before you order. Asking for a quote is free.

What photos should you send?

Good photos make the band fit better. A phone camera is enough if you follow a few simple rules.

  • Top view of the ring, straight down, in daylight.
  • Side view at eye level, showing how high the center sits.
  • The ring on your finger, so we see the proportions.
  • A coin or ruler next to the ring for scale.
  • Your ring size, and the stone size if you know it.

Should you plan the band with the engagement ring?

If you can, yes. Designing both at once lets us shape the engagement ring so a band fits cleanly later.

It also keeps the metal color, stone style and widths consistent. A matched pair looks deliberate, not like two rings that happen to share a finger.

Planning early is one of the points in our list of custom engagement ring mistakes to avoid.

Matching metal, stones and width

Detail Match it? Why
Metal color and karat Usually yes Same color reads as one set and wears evenly
Stone type Usually yes Diamond with diamond, or moissanite with moissanite, keeps the sparkle consistent
Band width Close to the engagement band Similar widths stack neatly
Style details Optional Milgrain, pavé or a leaf motif can echo the ring

Mixed metals can also work on purpose. Our stacking wedding bands guide shows combinations that look intentional.

On our product pages, the main photo switches to the exact metal and stone you choose. That makes matching colors easier.

For a custom band, the 3D preview shows how it meets your ring. Our Try It In Real Life replica lets you wear a $199 3D-printed copy, credited on orders of $1,000 or more.

Every piece includes free worldwide shipping, free engraving, free 60-day resizing and a lifetime warranty.
