Micro Pavé Engagement Rings: Sparkle, Care and Resizing

Updated October 2026 · By Yaniv Segal, founder of Segal Jewelry, Los Angeles

A micro pavé engagement ring has a band or halo covered in very small diamonds, each held by tiny beads of metal, so the surface looks like continuous sparkle with almost no metal showing. It gives more shimmer than classic pavé, needs gentle cleaning and a yearly stone check, and full-coverage bands are harder to resize. Here is what to know before you choose one.

What is a micro pavé engagement ring?

Pavé comes from the French word for paved. The band is set with rows of small stones, like a street paved with cobblestones.

Micro pavé uses even smaller stones, set closer together. Each one sits in a drilled seat and is held by tiny beads of metal raised from the band itself.

The result is a surface that reads as one band of light. Very little metal shows between the stones, so the center diamond looks framed by sparkle rather than by gold.

Pavé vs micro pavé vs channel set

These three settings all line a band with small stones, but they look and wear differently.

Setting Stone size Look Maintenance Resizing
Classic pavé Small Sparkling rows with some metal beads visible Check stones yearly Possible; easier with partial coverage
Micro pavé Very small, set closer together Near-continuous sparkle, minimal metal Gentle cleaning; check stones yearly Limited on full-coverage bands; plan the size carefully
Channel set Small to medium Stones in a smooth row between two metal walls Lowest; no beads to snag Limited on full-coverage bands

Micro pavé gives the most sparkle per millimeter of band. Channel set is the most protective and the easiest to live with, as our channel set wedding bands guide explains.

Classic pavé sits in between. Many people choose micro pavé for the engagement ring and a channel or plain band to pair with it.

Where micro pavé appears on a ring

Pavé is not only a band style. It can line several parts of a ring, and each placement changes the look.

  • Band: stones along the top of the shank, either part way or all the way around.
  • Halo: a ring of small stones around the center to make it look larger.
  • Hidden halo: stones set under the center, visible from the side.
  • Gallery and bridge: stones along the side profile below the center.

A hidden halo keeps the top view clean while adding sparkle from the side. Our hidden halo vs double halo guide compares the two approaches.

Micro pavé with a colored or black center

Micro pavé works with any center. A white diamond center gives an all-white, bright look.

A black diamond center creates strong contrast against the white sparkle around it. Our black diamonds are natural and color-enhanced.

How to care for a micro pavé ring

The stones are small and the metal beads are fine, so a little care goes a long way.

  1. Clean it with warm water, a drop of mild soap and a soft toothbrush.
  2. Rinse well and pat dry with a lint-free cloth.
  3. Take it off for the gym, gardening, cleaning and heavy lifting.
  4. Store it on its own so other jewelry does not rub against the stones.
  5. Have the stones and beads checked by a jeweler about once a year.

A quick test at home: hold the ring near your ear and tap it gently. A faint rattle can mean a loose stone, so stop wearing it and have it checked.

Every ring we make comes with a lifetime warranty. If something ever looks off, contact us and we will look at it.

Can you resize a micro pavé engagement ring?

Often yes, but with limits. Resizing bends the band, and stones set all the way around leave no plain metal to cut or stretch.

If the pavé covers only the top half, a jeweler works on the plain lower section. That is why getting the size right at the start matters most with micro pavé.

Use our ring size guide to measure at home. We also include free 60-day resizing.

For extra certainty, our $199 Try It In Real Life replica comes in any ring design, sizes 4 to 13 including half sizes. You keep it, and the $199 is credited on orders of $1,000 or more.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between pavé and micro pavé? Micro pavé uses smaller stones set closer together, so less metal shows and the band looks like continuous sparkle.

Do micro pavé stones fall out? They are held securely, but small stones can loosen with hard knocks. Gentle wear and a yearly check keep them in place.

Can a micro pavé ring be resized? Usually, within limits. Partial-coverage bands are easier to resize than stones all the way around.

How do I clean a micro pavé ring? Use warm water, mild soap and a soft brush, then rinse and dry with a lint-free cloth.

Is micro pavé good for everyday wear? Yes, with some care. Remove it for the gym and heavy work, and pair it with a smooth band if you work with your hands.
