Men's Diamond Rings: Signet, Band and Statement Styles

Updated October 2026 · By Yaniv Segal, founder of Segal Jewelry, Los Angeles

Men's diamond rings fall into three families: diamond wedding bands with stones set into the metal, signet rings with diamonds as an accent, and statement rings built around the diamonds themselves. Most men choose a band for daily wear and a signet or statement ring for character. Here is how the styles compare, how black and white diamonds differ on a man's hand, and how to get the size right the first time.

Men's diamond rings: the three main styles

Style Width and profile How diamonds are set Best for
Diamond wedding band Medium to wide, comfortable for all-day wear Channel, bezel or flush settings that sit level with the metal Daily wear, wedding rings, men who work with their hands
Signet ring Wide face with a raised top Diamonds as accents in a crest, motif or border A personal emblem; worn on the pinky or ring finger
Statement ring Bold, sculptural, higher profile Pavé or clusters covering much of the surface Evenings and events; men who want the ring to be noticed

The setting style matters more for men than for women's rings. Men tend to be harder on their rings, so diamonds set flush or in a channel, protected by metal on both sides, hold up better than raised prongs.

Men's diamond wedding rings

A men's diamond wedding ring should look substantial without catching on everything. Our Roman Eternal Elegance men's wedding rings are a good example of a diamond band built for daily wear. The same design comes with black diamonds (No. 7 and No. 9) or brown diamonds (No. 21), all from $5,198, so you can match the ring to your partner's engagement ring or choose a tone that suits you.

Black vs white diamonds for men

Both are diamonds and both rate 10 on the Mohs scale, so the choice is about look, not durability.

White diamond Black diamond Brown diamond
Look Bright sparkle and flashes of light Matte to glossy black; reads graphic and modern Warm champagne to cognac tones
Pairs best with White gold, platinum, yellow gold Yellow gold for contrast; white gold for a monochrome look Yellow and rose gold
Impression Classic, formal Bold, understated at a distance Warm, distinctive
Example Terry No. 1 lion signet Terry No. 7 lion signet; Roman No. 7 and No. 9 Roman No. 21

Black diamonds are a natural fit for men who want diamonds without obvious sparkle. Our black diamond ring price guide covers what they cost by carat.

Signet and statement rings with diamonds

A signet ring is the most personal men's ring. Our Royal Lion signet, Terry, pairs a lion motif with diamonds: the natural white diamond version (No. 1) starts from $9,408, and the black diamond version (No. 7) from $6,969. See more in the men's lion jewelry collection and our lion signet ring guide.

Statement rings take the opposite approach: the diamonds are the design. The Aiden No. 1, our men's diamond black ring, is a bold design that still works with a suit.

How to size a men's diamond ring

Men's rings are often wider than women's, and a wide band fits tighter than a thin one in the same size. Measure with that in mind.

  • Measure the inside diameter of a ring that fits the same finger well: size 9 is about 19.0 mm, size 10 about 19.8 mm, size 11 about 20.6 mm, size 12 about 21.4 mm.
  • For wide bands and signets, consider going up a half size, especially if your knuckle is larger than the base of your finger.
  • Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are largest, and never right after being in the cold.
  • Order the $199 Try It In Real Life replica of your exact design, in sizes 4 to 13 including half sizes. You keep it, and the full $199 is credited on orders of $1,000 or more.
  • If the final ring still needs adjusting, resizing is free within 60 days.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best diamond ring style for men? For daily wear, a diamond wedding band with stones set flush or in a channel. For character, a signet ring with diamond accents. For impact, a statement ring covered in pavé.

Are black diamonds good for men's rings? Yes. Black diamonds are diamonds, rated 10 on the Mohs scale, and give a bold, low-sparkle look that many men prefer.

Should men's wide rings be sized up? Wide bands fit tighter than narrow ones in the same size, so going up a half size is often more comfortable. A $199 replica of your design lets you check before ordering.

What metals do men's diamond rings come in? Our rings come in 14K and 18K white, yellow and rose gold, with platinum on many styles.

Can a men's diamond ring be resized? Yes. Resizing is free within 60 days, and every ring is covered by our lifetime warranty.
