Lost Your Wedding Band? How to Replace It So It Matches
Posted by YANIV SEGAL

To replace a lost wedding band, measure your ring size, photograph your engagement ring from the side, and note the old band's width and metal. A jeweler can then make a band that sits flush against your engagement ring. Plain bands are simple to match; diamond and contoured bands need photos or the original specs.

What do you need to replace a lost wedding band?
- Your ring size, or another ring that fits that finger
- Photos of the lost band, especially on your hand next to the engagement ring
- A side photo of your engagement ring, so the new band clears the setting
- The band width and metal, if you know them (a receipt often lists both)
- Any engraving you want repeated; engraving is free on every Segal piece
Which kind of band did you lose?
| Band type | What to send | Segal example |
|---|---|---|
| Plain or classic band | Size, width, metal and finish | Classic Minimalist Wedding Band - Mason No. 3, from $3,032 |
| Classic gold band | Size, width and metal | 14K Gold Classic Harmony Band - Alex No. 1, from $2,440 |
| Diamond eternity band | Photos showing stone size and setting | Complete Diamond Eternity Band - Naomi No. 1, from $2,022 |
| Hidden-diamond band | Photos and size | Hidden Diamond Wedding Band - Anastasia No. 3, from $1,420 |
| Men's diamond band | Size, width, photos | Classic Eternity Diamond Wedding Band - John No. 1, from $3,639 |
If your band was custom-shaped to curve around your engagement ring, side photos of the engagement ring are the most important thing to send. See how we match a custom band.

How do you match the metal and finish?
A band that is the right shape but a slightly different color will show next to your engagement ring. Tell us the metal and karat of your engagement ring, and whether it has a polished, brushed or hammered finish. White gold is usually rhodium plated for a bright white color, so we match that too.
If your engagement ring is yellow or rose gold, the karat matters: 18K looks richer in color than 14K. When in doubt, send a photo of the engagement ring in daylight.
Should you replace both rings at once?
If you lost the band but still have the engagement ring, replace only the band and send us photos of the engagement ring so the two sit together. If both were lost or stolen, rebuild them as a set: we design them together so the band curves, sits flush and matches in metal from the start.
Can the replacement band be different from the old one?
Yes. Some people use the replacement to add hidden diamonds, switch to an eternity band or move to a sturdier width. If you want it, a channel set band holds stones between two metal walls and suits active hands. Every Segal ring also includes a lifetime upgrade, so a simple band now can become a diamond band later.
Does insurance cover a lost wedding band?
Simply losing a ring is usually not covered by a standard homeowners policy, which covers named perils such as theft. A ring scheduled on a floater is usually covered for accidental loss too; the Insurance Information Institute gives a ring dropped down a drain as an example.
This guide is general information, not insurance or legal advice. Your policy wording decides what is covered, so check it or ask your agent.
